Scientific insight and commercial talent are the keys to the success which BioConAct achieves for its customers. How I came to find this unique combination? Discover it here.
A passion for science
After graduating as a Master in biotechnology in 1990, I set upon my professional journey at a service department of the microbial genetics’ laboratory at the University of Ghent. There I gained experience in a broad range of molecular techniques.
Offering academic services to the industry, I discovered that my passion was commercializing science. While the era saw the rise of Flemish biotechnology, it was as a field of research, mainly, with only a handful of companies actively working in the field. This is when I witnessed the emergence of the first biotechs.
Admiration for entrepreneurship
After my academic career, I gained more than 15 years’ experience in EMEA business development for a number of international life sciences companies such as Oxoid (now Thermo Fisher Scientific), Qiagen and Applied Biosystems (Life Technologies).
For those multinationals, I was involved in the development of new markets in several segments of the molecular testing ecosystem: academic research and pre-clinical research, clinical diagnostics, biopharma-analytics, food and animal health diagnostics.
Science + business development
During my career, I studied business administration (Vlerick Management School) and marketing (University of California, Irvine). I fulfilled a variety of roles from the pre-sales process by performing technical sales tasks, establishing contacts with key opinion leaders and generating customers reference sites, to strategic selling and marketing.
Over the last few years, I have helped start-ups and scale-ups to set up their commercial story, sales funnel, pricing, investor relations, alliances, sales team and sales channels in an international context.
My unique combination of scientific insight and business development and people management talent is the key to the success of my clients. Could it be for you as well?
What about you? How can I help?
Whether you’re the founder of a life sciences start-up, manager of a scale-up, or a current or potential investor, I know the challenges you face. During the course of an exploratory conversation, I’ll listen to what you need, and collaborate with you. Of course, I will only come on board if we believe in one another.
